Sam Winter will be staying on as Bishop's Stortford captain – and talks have begun to get the rest of the squad signed up for 2021-22.

The centre, who came through the youth ranks at Silver Leys, has skippered the side throughout their National League 1 life following promotion in 2017.

"Sam has agreed to stay on as captain for another year," said joint head coach Marcus Cattell.

"He's the right man for the job and his captaincy has improved over the seasons.

"He was also probably our most consistent performer last season [2019-20] and is probably still the first name on the team sheet."

Cattell is hopeful the vast majority of the squad will remain in place for next term as he and fellow joint head coach Tom Coleman still prepare for their first competitive match in charge having taken over from director of rugby Andy Long.

"We only do one-year contracts so we're in early talks with players," said Cattell.

"Over the next couple of months we'll get the boys to re-sign for next year and the early signs are good that they'll still be here."
