Little Hallingbury resident Simon Jones completes New York City Marathon after taking up running at 46




A Little Hallingbury man who started running at the age of 46 following a work-related medical took part in the Parade of Nations before completing this month’s TCS New York City Marathon.

Simon Jones, now 53, finished the race in 4hr 56min 41sec having proudly waved the Union Jack at the opening ceremony on November 3.

He ran his first marathon, in London, only earlier this year having decided seven years ago to take up the sport to improve his general health.

Jones, who attended Sheering primary and then Leventhorpe School in Sawbridgeworth, works as a procurement manager for Volker Wessels Highways, based in Hoddesdon. He is married to Laura and they have two children, Charlie, 17, and Emily, 13.

He was cheered on in America by friend Catherine and her daughter, who live over there. He was also supported by his sister’s partner’s brother and New York resident Martin who, along with partner Sandra, provided accommodation and a free taxi service.

Jones, who is a member of Innovation Multisport, completed the 3 Peaks Challenge this year.
