Bishop’s Stortford High School student Ben Sessions joint 13th in under-16 McGregor Trophy at West Essex Golf Club
Ben Sessions tied as the second-placed English player in the English Open Under-16 Boys’ Championship.
Competitors from 12 different countries lined up for the 72-hole event - known as the McGregor Trophy - at West Essex Golf Club.
And Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club member Sessions returned four solid rounds to finish joint 13th overall.
The teenager, who attends The Bishop’s Stortford High School, shot 71, 70, 73 and 71 for a total of 285.
His drives continually bisected the fairways and, with his approach shots arrowing in on the greens, it was no wonder he only recorded one six during the 72 holes. Were it not for the fact that several putts just skimmed the hole his score could well have been much lower.
Champion Yago Hormo, from Spain, compiled final rounds of 64 and 65 to finish on 271, just one shot ahead of Australian Ollie Marsh. Denmark’s Noah Lundskaer was a further three shots back.
A number of players who have won the McGregor Trophy have gone on to enjoy successful professional careers, including 2013 US Open champion Justin Rose, 2010 Ryder Cup player Edoardo Molinari and European Tour winners Jim Payne, Steve Webster, Graeme Storm and Oliver Fisher.
