Ben Sessions achieved an excellent third-place finish when representing England at the Spanish Under-18 Boys’ Open Championship.

The Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club member was one of four English youngsters taking part at the Fontanals Golf Club in Girona.

He was under par in each of his four rounds with scores of 69, 68, 70 and 71 to finish 10 under par with a total of 278.

Sessions, 17, finished just two shots behind champion Yago Horno-Mateo, from Spain, and one behind Switzerland’s Max Tabone.

The Bishop’s Stortford High School student then brought the curtain down on his outstanding 2025 competitive season by finishing fourth at the Boys’ County Champion of Champions event, which was held on the renowned Hotchin Course at Woodhall Spa.

He qualified for the event by winning the Hertfordshire Boys’ County Championship at Knebworth Golf Club last month when his winning margin after two rounds was eight shots.

In the 36-hole competition at Woodhall Spa, Sessions was one over par in his morning round and one under par in the afternoon to finish on 146, just two shots behind winner Leo Cahi of Sussex.

Tied for second place - and one shot ahead of Sessions - were Norfolk’s Sullivan Goddard and Lancashire’s George Whitehead.
