Bishop’s Stortford High School student Ben Sessions shoots 10-under-par round in Faldo Series at Brocket Hall in Hertfordshire

Teenager Ben Sessions achieved the rare feat of recording a 10-under-par round as he finished second in the Southern Section of the Faldo Series.

The 17-year old Bishop’s Stortford High School student registered the sensational score of 63 in the opening round of the three-day competition for under-21s at Brocket Hall in Welwyn Garden City.

Sessions, who is a member at Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club, shot 11 birdies, six pars and just one bogey. Apart from that one minor blemish, his drives bisected the fairways, his approach shots arrowed in on the pin and his putter was red hot during day one on the Palmerston Course.

That exceptional effort gave the youngster, who plays off a handicap of plus 4.1, a three-shot lead over Romford’s Henry Linley, which he increased to four shots thanks to a three-under-par second round.

But the top two had fluctuating fortunes during a wind-affected final round and Linley came back to triumph.

Sessions’ lead had vanished by the sixth hole and he was two down by the 14th, before Linley bogeyed the 15th and Sessions birdied the penultimate hole to level things up.

It was Linley’s day, however, as his birdie putt dropped in on the 18th while Sessions watched his own effort stay above ground.
