Matching Green beat Audley End in Boardmans Davies Cup final at Bishop’s Stortford

A stupendous one-handed catch from Dan Sibley helped Matching Green beat Audley End to lift the Boardmans Davies Cup on Sunday.

The man-of-the-match’s brilliant effort on the boundary to remove opener Dan Powell, who was going along nicely on 32, off the bowling of Riz Akram swung the final at Bishop’s Stortford’s Cricketfield Lane in his side’s favour.

And they went on to triumph by 18 runs as they completed a knockout double having already won the Tees Herts & Essex Border League Cup earlier in the summer.

Matching Green won the toss and put 120-8 on the board from their 20 overs.

Akram (34) and Olly Hartnell (48) put on 68 together for the second wicket while Sibley (10) was the only other player to reach double figures.

Ian Fairall and Powell, with three wickets apiece, were the pick of the bowlers for their opponents.

Sibley’s brilliant catch then proved hugely important in the reply as Audley End ultimately came up short on 102-5.

Sibley also took a wicket as did Jason Green and Salim Akbar along with a run out.

The event raised £270 for Isabel Hospice.
