Bishop's Stortford Running Club member Vicky Simpson claimed a personal best at the Milton Keynes Festival of Running

Vicky Simpson claimed a personal best at the Milton Keynes Festival of Running on Sunday.

The Bishop's Stortford Running Club member clocked 2hr 32min 36sec as she came third in her age group and was the 17th woman overall in wet and windy conditions.

Kevin Gillespie also smashed his PB by 18 minutes with 2:55.38.

The Brentwood Half Marathon also went ahead at the weekend and Themi Petridis finished in 1:24.33 for 41st place overall and fifth in the MV45 age category, while John Etherden completed the Bath Half Marathon in 2:25.49.

Danny Beazley stole the show for Bishop's Stortford Running Club in the Cambridge Half Marathon on March 8.

He finished in 1hr 11min 51sec as he set a personal best, came first in the V45 age category and broke his own V40 club record.

PBs were also registered by Kevin Gillespie (1:47.11), Stuart Davenport, who went under two hours for the first time in 1:57.08, and Richard Eddershaw (1:36.21), while Shirley Ball clocked 1:52.47 for third place in the V65 category.

Other Stortford runners included Simon Ellice (1:29.56), Gary Jones (1:46.36), Owen Bailey (1:48.13), Mark Palmer (1:48.17), Naomi Ghosh (1:55.30), Mark Wilds, Mel Grimwood (both 2:05.41) and John Etherden (2:34.55). Other finishers were John Ivens (1:42.24, 19th in V60), Nicola and Martin Cockerell (both 1:49.55), Brian Sullivan (1:56.38), Lara Wheeldon (1:57.56), Jane Mansfield (2:27.26) and Katie Sadler (2:50.50).

Seven runners represented the green and gold down in Devon for the The Grizzly, a 10- or 20-mile cross country race featuring steep climbs, several miles of running across pebbled beaches and knee-deep bogs.

Mark Lawrence and Oliver Last ran together and were first home for Stortford in 4:04.45. Mike Grant and Bekah Cranch also stuck together, finishing in 4:30.13, and they were followed by Peter Wenzel in 5:10.37.

Ian McClymont and Marie Hockley ran the cub distance of 10 miles, sticking together to complete the course in 1:51.52.

Anthony Kirby took on the Thetford Trails Half Marathon and registered 2:46.12 in his first attempt at the distance while Mark Burkett took 3:48.00 and 91st place in a wind-affected Cambridge Boundary Run.

Rob Thorpe and Andrea Thorpe completed the London Vitality Big Half Marathon in 1:42.35 and 1:50.32 respectively.

Ian Rodgers completed the recent Brett Lydd 20 in 2:51.05 while Ben and Donna Walker crossed the line in 2:00.05 and 2:15.21 respectively in the Windsor Half Marathon.

Meanwhile, organisers remain confident the Stort 10 and 5 Mile event will go ahead on May 10 but the committee will continue to take advice from the Association of Running Clubs, the Government and Public Health England.
