Sisters Grace and Alice Maskell guided Herts and Essex High School to glory in the Hertfordshire Schools Team Golf Championship.

The siblings and team-mate Sophia Allan, 13, comfortably finished first at Essendon Golf Club with a five-shot advantage over Harpenden's St George's School.

They can now look forward to competing in the national finals at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire next year.

The team competition format saw the best two individual stableford points scores counting, with the third player's score being used to resolve a tie.

The Maskell sisters dominated on the old course at Essendon and tied for top spot in the individual rankings with 39 points apiece.

Grace, 13, was awarded the prize for the best individual score on countback. She currently plays off a handicap index of 15.2, with Alice, 15, off 16.7.

Such is the strength of girls' golf at Herts and Essex High School that their other team, which consisted of Maia Vanston, Ruby Esterbrook and Connie Packer, finished fourth.

All six girls are junior members at Bishop's Stortford Golf Club, which in recent times has produced several top golfers that have gone on to win trophies at county and national level.
