Real Stortford under-18 Stars beat Cuffley to reach League Cup final
Real Stortford under-18 Stars beat Cuffley 2-0 to book their place in the League Cup final and keep their treble hopes alive.
The defending champions dominated the opening exchanges and were unlucky not to score when Dan Short’s volley hit the post.
The visiting goalkeeper then saved Sam Law’s penalty after Tolu Osiyemi had been brought down in the box, before Matt Kemp was agonisingly close to being turned home by Matt Kemp.
Stars broke the deadlock early in the second half when Osiyemi netted after Aaron Bonney’s long ball had been nodded on by Kemp.
And Kemp made sure of the victory for Stars, who will take on Chase Side in the final on May 5, when he converted Joey Bell’s drilled cross.
Dennis Earle scored twice and made it four goals in two games as Under-18 Lions avenged their recent cup defeat in a 6-0 thrashing of Codicote.
Harry Senior opened the scoring after 18 minutes with a 35-yard lob, which is becoming something of a trademark finish.
Earle slotted in the second from a tight angle after being found by Nick Bartel, before Callum Taylor fired in from the edge of the box.
Max Thompson saw his cross volleyed in by Earle to make it 4-0 at the break and an own goal followed on the hour mark, with Dylan Simons tapping in Taylor’s cross to complete the scoring three minutes from time.
Senior was named man of the match and Thompson and Earle were the clubmen.
Billy Clarke scored and was the man of the match when under-15 Lions lost 4-1 to Welwyn Pegasus, while Sam Ranford was under-13 Bulls’ star performer in their spirited display when losing 2-0 to high-flying Wormley.
