LEARN MOREHertfordshire beat Middlesex by six points in the annual intercounty indoor tournament.
The team triumphed 9,650-9,644 in a contest described by Herts county chairman Stuart Barber as the closest he has competed in.
Five members of the 20-strong squad were from Stortford Archery Club with Nigel Boardman, Jeremy Godfrey (both recurve) and Robert Jones (longbow) all receiving their first county colours as they competed alongside clubmates Barber (compound) and Sophia Coles (junior recurve).
The Herts compound team won 1,748-1,677, the recurve squad succeeded 4,408-4,336 and the juniors were victorious 922-871.
Middlesex did take the honours in the barebow and longbow categories, but Herts took the overall victory by a narrow margin.
