Bishop's Stortford's ladies' first team will be holding an open trial for any players who would like the chance to play national league hockey.

The side are preparing for their inaugural campaign in Vitality Women's England Hockey League, Conference East after securing their place at that level for the first time in the club's 74-year history by winning the East Women's League, Premier Division in March.

Their first game will be on September 24 away to South East champions Guildford, who are coached by former England and Great Britain international Dan Fox.

It will be followed by back-to-back home games at the Herts and Essex Sports Centre, in Beldams Lane, against familiar foes Ipswich and Chelmsford, both of whom they have faced in the regional setup.

And pre-season training will commence on Tuesday August 2 with the open trial.

"We're under no illusions how tough the step up to Conference East will be," said ladies' club captain Richard Temple. "However, the players will be ready and are really excited about the challenge.
