Bishop's Stortford Ladies beat Gravesend in friendly

Bishop's Stortford Ladies ran in six tries as they beat Gravesend 34-17 in a pre-season friendly at Silver Leys, writes Dave Walker.

The hosts took the lead when some great offloading and a good line resulted in Kate Hawkins dotting down in the corner.

After the visitors equalised, Stortford enjoyed a purple patch as some great individual skills and fantastic handling put both scrum-half Jasmine Bice and prop Carleigh Lalonge in under the sticks. Fly-half Becca Coppen neatly bisected the uprights to convert both tries.

A fourth try followed for Stortford after a powerful carry by lock Gio Marinisse saw her cross the line with a couple of defenders hanging off her.

Gravesend dug in and were rewarded with a converted try under the posts before going over the whitewash again to close the gap to seven points as the match moved into the final quarter.

Stortford rallied impressively, however, and the win was put beyond doubt when winger Cat Gleed and then centre Chloe Capp claimed tries.

A final flourish in the shape of a second try for Lalonge was chalked off after eagle-eyed referee Peter Brady spotted a forward pass in the build-up.
