Ben Twohig and Dom Clutterbuck starred in Bishop's Stortford's 14-run win over Potters Bar in Saracens Hertfordshire Cricket League
Ben Twohig hit a half-century and Dom Clutterbuck claimed a five-wicket haul as Bishop's Stortford won by 14 runs at Potters Bar.
The visitors were 154 all out before removing the hosts for 140 with 2.4 overs remaining as they made it back-to-back wins at the start of their Saracens Hertfordshire League, Premier Division campaign.
Stortford captain Tommy Burslem elected to bat on what looked like a flat wicket after winning the toss and saw his side slip from 24 without loss to 41-3.
Twohig and Ryan Wells steadied the ship on what was proving to be a difficult wicket and a 50-run partnership came in 72 balls, but, with the score on 95, the latter was caught behind for 19.
Zum Akhter (11) and Matt Pike (10) helped to move the score along, but it was Twohig's excellent 65 which was the mainstay of the innings.
Potters Bar's openers were looking comfortable on 45 without loss in the ninth over when Twohig took one of his three slip catches off Masoor Khan. His third catch to dismiss Steve Gale was an exceptional piece of fielding.
Potters Bar were 90-7 in the 28th over and an eighth-wicket partnership of 29 between Charlie Scott and Teddy Duke came to an end when the latter was caught for 11.
With catches being dropped and the score on 119-8 the game could have gone either way, but Stortford's bowlers kept it tight and Potters Bar fell 14 short of their target.
All four of the spinners bowled well, with Clutterbuck taking 5-31, Khan claiming 4-31 and Simon Lindop's overs going for 19 runs while Twohig's 10 overs for 10 runs helped to seal the game.
In Division 4A, Jonny Gaffney made a century and Tim Smith claimed seven scalps as Stortford II thrashed Tewin by 161 runs at Cricketfield Lane.
Gaffney (112) shared a 137-run stand with Haitel Patel (45) as well as having support from Richie Heywood (24) and Murray Davidson (23 not out) in the hosts' 243-6.
Opening bowlers Smith (7-29) and Heywood (3-31) soon got among the wickets and the Tewin innings collapsed to 82 all out.
Stortford III lost by 123 runs in a high-scoring game at home to Matching Green in the Tees Herts & Essex Border League, Premier Division.
The visitors piled on a huge 416-2 in 45 overs as Steve Ward (158) and Graeme Bowerman, who carried his bat for 151, produced a club-record partnership of 287.
Hasan Ali (4-80) took three early wickets in Stortford's reply before excellent striking from Tom Waring (45) and Adrian Wacey (74 not out) pushed the reply to 293-8.
In Division Two, Stortford IV cruised to an eight-wicket win at Essendon.
A disciplined bowling performance restricted their opponents to 161-4 before Jay Ward and Fred Hussain, who were unbeaten on 62 and 48 respectively, got them to 165-2 with almost half of their overs to spare.
