Bishop's Stortford rugby club beat Bishop's Stortford Cricket Club at their own game in what could become annual showdown

Bishop's Stortford Cricket Club taking on their rugby-playing neighbours could become an annual event after they went head to head.

The friendly challenge took place at Cricketfield Lane on bank holiday Monday (May 31), with the rugby club emerging five-wicket winners.

"It was a really good afternoon," said the rugby club's joint head coach Marcus Cattell.

"We had an XI made up from the senior playing squad against a mixed Stortford side. People were able to enjoy the weather and the average cricket!

"It's something we want to make into an annual event and hopefully next year, with fewer restrictions, we can make it more of a festival atmosphere."

The cricket club made 146 for 9 from their 30 overs, with Tom McCrone taking four wickets.

The rugby club reached 151 for 5 as captain Jack Scantlebury (28 not out) hit a six to win the match with two overs remaining.
