Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club members at Aquatics GB Championships, City of Norwich Swimming Club Easter Meet and London Legacy Meet
Bishop’s Stortford Swimming Club members have been busy taking part in three recent competitions.
Athletes competed at the Aquatics GB Championships, the City of Norwich Swimming Club Easter Meet and the London Legacy Meet.
The Aquatics GB Championships is the biggest domestic event of the year and featured around 1,000 swimmers at the London Aquatics Centre, including Olympic medallists James Guy and Ben Proud and Paralympic medallist Poppy Maskill.
Stortford’s Ella Greatbatch took part in the 50m and 100m breaststroke, coming third in her age group in the former and narrowly missing out on a spot in the junior final.
Niamh James competed in the 50m backstroke while club alumni Kirsty Neill, now representing Millfield, was in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.
At the City of Norwich Swimming Club Easter Meet, athletes had their last chance to secure qualifying times for the upcoming Regional Championships.
Ben Green broke club long-course records in both the 50m backstroke (43.28sec) and 100m breaststroke (1min 45.82sec).
Other record breakers were Summer Miller in the 200m butterfly (2.35.18), Taras Boiko in the 400m individual medley (5.44.60) and Niamh James in the 200m IM (2.26.56).
Sixteen Stortford swimmers bagged at least one medal, with Harrison Dodwell leading the way with six.
Prior to all that, the London Legacy Meet took place at the London Aquatics Centre and Rose Conday earned gold age-group medals - top-three places in age-group heats - in 50m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 100m Freestyle as well as bronze in 100m backstroke. Taras Boiko (100m butterfly) and Guy Spearman-Baines (100m breaststroke) also got gold.
Finals were split into junior for 15-and-unders and senior for 16-and-overs, with the A finals for the fastest 10 from the heats and the B finals for those coming 11th to 20th.
First-place finishes in their respective finals were achieved by Conday (junior A 100m freestyle and 50m freestyle), Freya Hadnutt (senior B 50m backstroke) and Adrien Storck-Wihlidal (senior B 50m backstroke).
Club records were also broken by Harrison Dodwell (10-11 years long course 200m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and 50m breaststroke) and Taras Boiko (10-11 years long course 100m butterfly, 400m freestyle, 200m IM and 100m backstroke).
