Bishop's Stortford Swimming Club members bagged nine medals when relays took centre stage on the third and final weekend of the Hertfordshire County Championships.

The haul, which was seven more than in 2020, comprised one gold, five silver and three bronze.

The 200m freestyle and medley relays were split into three categories – age group (13 years and under), junior championship (15 and under) and championship (10 and over) – with male, female and mixed teams in each.

And Stortford teams, who produced some great comebacks and nail-biting finishes, finished in the top eight in all 18 events. The club's gold medal was achieved by Kirsty Neill, Alice Longman, Ella Greatbatch and Imogen Tang in the junior championship women's freestyle relay.

Once the racing was over, Swim England Hertfordshire crowned the best overall swimmers and Greatbatch (14 years), Neill (15) and Niamh James (18 and over) secured top spot for their age group.

Elliot Hall (12) was second in his group whilst five other swimmers were in the top eight: Dylan Davenport (13, fourth), Bella Parkus (17, fourth), Ethan David-Tostevin (13, fifth), Jacob Hayes (15, fifth) and Brandon Macdonald-Williams (14, sixth).

The medals from the whole competition were tallied up and Stortford came a superb fourth overall behind the large clubs of Hatfield, City of St Albans and Potters Bar. The women (all ages) were ranked second, the junior championship women came first and both sexes came second in the championship rankings.
