Bishop’s Stortford rugby club sign Aman Johal, Ryan Davies and JP Phelan




Bishop’s Stortford have announced three new signings ahead of the 2025-26 National 1 campaign.

Centre Aman Johal and scrum-half Ryan Davies have been recruited from Nottingham and Rainey, in Northern Ireland, respectively while prop JP Phelan has arrived from National 2 East side Guernsey Raiders.

They will be hoping to make their mark for the Silver Leys side in National 1, with their 2025-26 season kicking off with a home match against Birmingham Moseley on Saturday September 6.

Johal - along with his twin brother Jai - joined Championship side Nottingham last October having graduated from Nottingham Trent University.

He signed for the Archers after four years in the NTU performance rugby squad having been a product of the Saracens academy.

Davies moved to Rainey ahead of last season and featured for them in Energia All-Ireland League, Men’s Division 2B. He joined them from Queen’s University Belfast.

Phelan arrives in Hertfordshire having spent time at the level below with Guernsey, who finished seventh in National 2 East last term, 31 points behind champions Tonbridge Juddians.

Stortford’s first team currently have two pre-season friendlies confirmed, with Bury St Edmunds and Dorking visiting Silver Leys on Friday August 22 (8pm) and Saturday August 30 (3pm) respectively.

Second team the Blues will also entertain a Dorking XV on August 30 (2.15pm) having travelled to Wanstead on Thursday August 21 (7.45pm).
