Bishop's Stortford Swimming Club secured an excellent sixth-place finish in Hertfordshire Peanuts League, Division One.

The competition gives younger and inexperienced swimmers, aged nine to 12, an opportunity to experience their first serious team event.

After two good rounds in the top flight, Stortford were nicely in the top six alongside Hatfield, Watford, City of St Albans, Potters Bar and Stevenage, and they performed brilliantly to net sixth spot as they finished two places higher than last year.

There were an amazing 12 personal bests achieved on the night in the individual races and 11 in the relays.

Zoe Opiyo set a club record of 18.79sec in the nine-year-old girls' 25m fly, Imogen Tang was first in the girls' under-12 50m free in 31.56 and Catherine Clune clocked 20.50 to win the girls' under-11 25m breaststroke.

The racing culminated with the loud and competitive squadron relay - 8x25m with a boy and a girl from each age group - in which Stortford came third.

Special mentions must go to Opiyo, Florence Hills, Oliver Gisborne and George Grimwood, who all swam up an age group in the relays, and Annabelle Rands and Max Mason, who had their first taste of competitive action for the club.
