Ashley Sutton finishes third in 2024 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship
Ashley Sutton had to settle for third place despite a winning finish to the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship season.
The Bishop’s Stortford driver and defending champion, who was going for a record-breaking fifth title, claimed victory in the third and final race of the weekend at Brands Hatch.
But his hopes had been dashed in the opening encounter after a first-lap collision left him on the gravel and meant he could not continue.
It was Jake Hill who claimed his maiden crown after the Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport racer claimed a win and two second-place finishes to end the campaign eight points clear of runner-up Tom Ingram. Third-placed Sutton ended a further 48 points back.
Sutton, who competes for NAPA Racing UK, was involved in an early tangle with Ingram and Josh Cook in the opening race, with the former Birchwood High School student being forced out of the contest.
He bounced back to come fifth in the second race after a good battle with team-mate Dan Cammish.
And Sutton, who helped NAPA Racing UK win the teams title, ended the campaign on a high by taking the honours in the last race, with Hill clinching the trophy.
“What a way to sign off the year with a win,” said Sutton on X.
“Huge thanks to NAPA Racing for giving me an awesome car all weekend, wet or dry. Also to do the hat-trick as team champions again!
“Thanks for all your support this year, it’s been a rollercoaster!”
