Ashley Sutton still in British Touring Car Championship title contention going into final weekend at Brands Hatch

Ashley Sutton made the podium in the last race of the penultimate weekend to keep his hopes of making Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship history alive.

The Bishop’s Stortford driver, who is bidding to claim a record-breaking fifth title, produced a brilliant performance to take second place in the third and final race at Silverstone on Sunday (September 22).

It means the former Birchwood High School student sits third in the rankings, 33 points behind joint leaders Jake Hill and Tom Ingram, ahead of the season finale at Brands Hatch on the weekend of October 5-6.

Dan Cammish, Josh Cook and Colin Turkington, who are fourth, fifth and sixth respectively, are also still in mathematical contention to claim the crown.

Ingram, who competes for Team Bristol Street Motors, secured a memorable double triumph in wet conditions by taking the honours in the first and third races of the day.

Hill, who drives for Laser Tools Racing with MB Motorsport, was victorious in the second event and is narrowly ahead of Ingram at the summit having won seven races this term compared to his rival’s five.

But Sutton remains in contention after coming fourth, 12th and second.

He hauled himself up from 12th on the grid in the finale and clashed with Ingram on the last corner of the final lap as he took the runner-up spot.
