Ashley Sutton confirmed in NAPA Racing UK line-up for 2024 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship
Ashley Sutton has been confirmed in NAPA Racing UK’s line-up for the forthcoming Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship as he looks to become the first driver in the competition’s history to win five titles.
The Bishop’s Stortford driver will continue with the team after claiming a record-equalling fourth crown - he drew level with Andy Rouse and Colin Turkington - in October.
Sutton, 30, is part of an unchanged, four-man squad that also features Dan Cammish, Daniel Rowbottom and Sam Osborne.
“After an incredible two years with the team already and the latter being a record-breaking year claiming my fourth title, this now means I am fully focused to go after more,” said Sutton, who went to Birchwood High School.
“Let’s get 2024 under way. The car finished in a good place, but that doesn’t mean it’s been left there.
“More development has been going on back at HQ and I can’t wait to get back in the hot seat.”
Sutton was victorious in the final weekend’s opening race at Brands Hatch to secure the title last season.
He also became the first driver to lift the biggest prize in UK motorsport in both front-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive machinery.
Sutton, whose other championships were clinched in 2017, 2020 and 2021, totalled six pole positions, 12 wins and a further eight podium finishes over the course of the 10-round campaign.
Along the way he smashed a number of records, including scoring the most wins, podiums, pole positions, fastest laps and laps led in a single season in the modern era. He also became the first driver since Alain Menu in 1997 to win four consecutive races in a season.
He was also awarded the Goodyear Wingfoot Award for having the best qualifying record over the course of the year.
And Sutton’s efforts helped NAPA Racing UK/Ford a second successive teams’ championship and a maiden manufacturers’ title.
