Bishop’s Stortford Taekwon-do members win medals at Inter-club Match Championships in Luton

Isaac Horwood picked up two gold medals at the Inter-club Match Championships.

The Bishop’s Stortford Taekwon-do student, 15, triumphed in both the boys’ green belt patterns and heavyweight sparring competitions at Stockwood Park Academy in Luton.

He was one of six members of the club, aged between 10 and 20, in action in Bedfordshire.

There was also a gold medal for Edward Petts, 16, as he took gold in the men’s lightweight yellow belt sparring and silver in men’s yellow belt patterns.

Another student to complete a medal double was Suliman Khan, 20, as he struck gold in men’s black belt team sparring and added a bronze in sparring to his collection.

Also claiming two medals was 12-year-old Saoirse Casey Bond, who landed silver in girls’ patterns and bronze in lightweight green belt sparring.

Cian Casey Bond, 10, claimed bronze in boys’ red belt patterns while 13-year-old Zara Horwood narrowly missed out on a girls’ yellow belt patterns medal in her first competition.

The club’s Julie Taylor was one of the officials.

The club subsequently held a coloured belt grading where all students passed, including 80% with A passes.

“Everyone worked hard preparing for these two events and it paid off,” said instructor Colin Mowatt, fifth dan.

“We now approach the last quarter on a high with much to look forward to, including black belt gradings and the British Championships.”

The club trains at Parsonage Community Hall every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. Free trial classes are being offered for beginners. See www.bstkd.uk to find out more.
