Takeley kept up the pressure in the Essex Senior League, Premier Division title race with a 2-1 home win over Frenford
Takeley kept up the pressure in the Essex Senior League, Premier Division title race with a 2-1 home win over Frenford on Saturday (February 1).
The third-placed hosts took an early lead when Olly Miles raced onto Dion Johnston’s ball over the top and slotted past the advancing goalkeeper.
Takeley had chances to extend their lead, most notably when Olly Miles’ effort was cleared off the line.
The 14th-placed visitors equalised against the run of play when the hosts were caught napping high up the pitch and a simple ball through resulted in a goal for Bradley Ismael.
However, Takeley started the second period just as they did the first and retook the lead as Coby Miles fired home from the edge of the box.
The hosts, who remain four points behind table-topping Stanway Rovers, could have added to their tally but the Frenford goalkeeper produced good saves to deny Olly Miles and Lanre Balogun.
Relegation-battling Sawbridgeworth Town suffered a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of mid-table Benfleet.
Billy Carter opened the scoring after 16 minutes and Taylor Lawrence doubled the visitors’ lead five minutes before half time.
Toby Dickinson got Benfleet’s third goal of the afternoon a minute after the restart and Carter quickly wrapped up the points by completing his brace.
