Mark Taylor hat-trick helps Bishop's Stortford II drew 4-4 with Letchworth II in East Men's Hockey League

Mark Taylor hit a hat-trick as Bishop's Stortford II drew 4-4 at East Men's League, Division 4SW promotion rivals Letchworth II.

It was the third-placed hosts who took charge early on and went 2-0 up after half an hour, but Taylor scored his first goal of the day for the fourth-placed visitors on the stroke of half time to reduce the arrears.

From the restart, a deep and accurate aerial from Fred Cooke was latched onto by Paul Round and his pass found Cooke, who slotted in from a tight angle.

Collin Sharp made some excellent saves to keep Stortford on level terms before Letchworth restored their advantage by punishing a slip at the back.

The next twist came courtesy of Taylor as he notched twice in as many minutes to complete his treble and put the away side 4-3 up, firstly with a reverse-stick finish and then blasting home after showing great pace to race onto Round's pass.

Stortford employed man-to-man marking at the back as they attempted to hold on for the final five minutes, but a speculative cross was met by the Letchworth centre-forward and he clipped the ball in at the far post.

Taylor would have had a golden chance to win it for the visitors, but Olly Plumber's aerial into the D was deemed unlawful by the umpire.
