Bishop’s Stortford High School student Luke Dunham clocks fastest under-17 3,000m time in UK

Luke Dunham clocked the fastest 3,000m time in the UK in his age group at an open event in Watford.

The Bishop’s Stortford High School student and Herts Phoenix AC member, who competes in the under-17 category, crossed the line in 8min 32sec.

The time also meant he beat his Ware-based club’s under-17 record over the distance by four seconds.

Dunham followed it up with another impressive run in Stevenage as he took the Hertfordshire under-17 1,500m title in a time of 4.12.

The youngster’s Herts Phoenix clubmate and fellow Stortfordian Steve Prosser was also in action at the Watford meet and registered the fourth-fastest 1,500m time in the UK in his age group.

His time of just under 4.17 meant he also smashed the club’s veteran 45 record, which had stood since 2007, by eight seconds.
