Stansted and Matching Green to enter second XIs in Tees Herts & Essex Border League from 2021 season

Two new sides will be competing in the Tees Herts & Essex Border League next season.

Stansted and Matching Green announced at the league's first annual general meeting they would be entering their second teams in 2021.

A new club has also enquired about joining the league, which got up and running this year as the replacement for the Herts & Essex Cricket League, while four other existing members also asked about entering their second strings.

A potential new feature for next season discussed at the meeting was a 'loan a player' scheme to help clubs struggling for numbers.

The league management committee was re-elected en bloc while Martin Figg was elected vice-chairman.

League chairman David Brown said: "It is very good news for local cricket that Matching Green and Stansted are entering their second XIs in the HEBL.

"The league would like to thank Tees for their support during 2020. Plenty of cricket was played locally, which was a relief, albeit from July 18 instead of May 1.

"We will be attempting to start league cricket on May 1 again in 2021."
