The day new England star and Aston Villa forward Ollie Watkins came to Bishop's Stortford with Weston-super-Mare

Ollie Watkins became the latest player to add his name to the list of England goalscorers last week – six years after netting against Bishop's Stortford in non-League football.

The Aston Villa forward, 25, notched in the 83rd minute at Wembley last Thursday (March 25) to complete a 5-0 victory for Gareth Southgate's men over San Marino in a World Cup qualifier.

And Watkins started out on the path to international football during a loan spell with Weston-super-Mare from Exeter City in the second half of the 2014-15 season when he was aged 19.

He scored 10 goals in 25 appearances for the Seagulls, including one at Woodside Park when they beat the Blues 4-3 in a Conference South thriller on February 28, 2015. On target for Stortford that day were Adam Bailey-Dennis, Ashley Miller and Mikel Suarez.

Watkins ultimately broke into Exeter's first team before enjoying a successful spell in the Championship with Brentford and then making the move to Villa in the Premier League in September 2020.
