Bishop’s Stortford beat Bury St Edmunds 2-0 in East Women’s Hockey League, Premier Division

Bishop’s Stortford maintained their five-point lead at the top of the East Women’s Hockey League, Premier Division by winning 2-0 at Bury St Edmunds on Saturday (February 1).

The table-toppers took a 15th-minute lead when Lexie Guthrie and Kathryn Langridge combined brilliantly for the latter to find the back of the net.

Stortford remained composed under growing pressure after the interval and doubled their advantage as Gracie Cowan teed up Beth Moore to score her first goal for the team.

Bury went close to pulling a goal back, but Guthrie was in the right place at the right time to clear the ball off the line.

A player-of-the-match performance from goalkeeper Ali Martyn could not prevent the second team losing 1-0 at home to Blueharts in Division 1S.

She demonstrated incredible skill and reflexes to keep the opposition at bay for much of the match, but could do nothing about the visitors’ 15th-minute winner.
