Felsted School student Peter Scofield comes third at Eleiko British Junior Powerlifting Championships in Solihull

Peter Scofield came third at the Eleiko British Junior Championships to complete a superb sporting spring.

The Felsted School student, 17, claimed a bronze medal and set new regional records in the 93kg-105kg weight class as an under-18 athlete at Gymshark Lifting Club in Solihull.

His achievement came after he had scored a try at Twickenham to help his school’s rugby team win the Continental Tyres National Schools Vase in March.

Scofield, who was sidelined for six months due to injury last year, took on lifts such as squat, bench and deadlift in front of three judges at the event organised by the Great British Powerlifting Federation.

He weighed in at 94kg, which was considerably lighter than most of his rivals, but came third - and second in England - as he broke regional records for both squat and deadlift.

The teenager is now looking forward to a Team GB training camp and hopes to compete at the world and European championships, in Malta and the Czech Republic respectively, later this year.
