Louis Walsh and Erin Amu score first Bishop’s Stortford goals in 4-0 Southern League win over Lowestoft Town

Louis Walsh and Erin Amu opened their goal accounts as Bishop’s Stortford beat Lowestoft Town 4-0 in the Pitching In Southern League, Premier Central on Saturday (January 25).

Their first goals for the Blues were added to by Ryan Charles and Fabio Virciglio as the hosts claimed their biggest home league victory since thrashing Merstham 6-0 in March 2022, almost two years ago.

Stortford have climbed two places to 14th and now sit five points above the relegation zone.

They visit third-placed Halesowen Town this Saturday (February 1) before travelling to 13th-placed Alvechurch next Tuesday (February 4).

Walsh put Steve Castle’s men ahead inside five minutes at the RDA Stadium by cutting in off the left wing and unleashing a powerful shot which went through the hands of debutant goalkeeper Ellis Craven.

Amu had a chance to double the lead, but his low curling effort from outside the box drifted wide of the bottom corner.

The Trawlerboys, who are one place and one point above the drop zone, went close to equalising when Harvey Sayer rattled the bar with a left-footed free kick and, after the ball was scrambled clear, Samuel Johnson shot wide.

It was the Blues who scored the game’s second goal straight after the interval as Amu beat Craven with a left-footed effort that went in off the post.

Substitute Charlie Castle headed wide from a corner, but Charles made no mistake when he nodded home Cole Dasilva’s cross in the 59th minute.

The hosts pulled further clear just three minutes later when Walsh produced a fizzing low cross and Virciglio converted from close range.

Substitute Rashawn Scott forced a good diving save from Craven before Blues captain Jake Thompson’s near-post header was also kept out.

Jaden Ogwuazor, who also came off the bench, sent a half-volley wide for the hosts before Virciglio shot straight at Craven following a nice one-two with Dasilva.

Joao Soares Rangel had a couple of chances for the visitors towards the end, but Elliot Krasniqi saved the first and his second went wide as Stortford made it back-to-back clean sheets.
