Sue Weston and Steve Cutmore triumphed in a dramatic conclusion to Bishop’s Stortford Bowling Club’s annual Scott Osborn Trophy Hong Kong pairs competition.
A thrilling final saw them locked together with Leonie Philpot and Paul Vincent at 5-5 after six ends before they won in an extra end.
The finalists won meal voucher prizes from the sponsors as did Paul and Lesley Devall, who defeated Denis and Aileen Stevenson to finish third. The event attracted 24 pairings.
Stortford’s John Henson and Andy Collings are going well in the EH men’s pairs. They defeated clubmates Peter McRandal and Terry Smith 20-10 before beating Mark Harris and Peter Townsend at Sawbridgeworth 20-12.
In another all-Stortford encounter, Aileen Stevenson, Christina McKenzie and Margaret Gardner defeated Phyllis Cracknell, Eileen Tunmore and Rosemary Felstead 18-17 in the EH triples.
There was EH mixed pairs success for Terry Duffield and Neal Harrington, who beat Rosedale’s Vivienne Ellis-Spencer and Ivor Bishop at home 17-9.
Rob Perry and Kevin Hutcherson beat Ware 20-12 in the EH men’s pairs while Trevor McKenzie won 21-12 against Greg Amos at Buntingford in the EH singles.
There was a resounding 27-3 success for Paul Nelson and Trevor McKenzie in the EHBL men’s pairs while Fiona Collings and Penny Hannam were pipped in an extra end at Rosehill in the EH women’s pairs as they finished 14-14 after 18 ends.
On the county scene, Aileen Stevenson and Phyllis Cracknell pipped Hazel Ottley and Colleen Shelley of Sele Farm 14-13 in the women’s pairs.
Fiona Collings and Edvj Massazza-Gal beat clubmates Hilary Chandler and Kim Henson 18-10 while Rosemary Felstead and Eileen Tunmore defeated Jacqui Shaffron and Audrey Nichols (Sawbridgeworth) 21-20.
Edvj Massazza-Gal and Kim Henson beat Aileen Stevenson and Phyllis Cracknell 16-14 after an extra end in the BE women’s pairs.
Ospreys were edged out 26-30 (15-9 & 11-21, 2-4pts) at Stevenage Reds in Division Two of the East Herts League and Stortford pipped Ware 88-86 in an away friendly.
