Ewan Winship stars as Real Stortford under-15 Saracens advance in Marco Pisani League Shield

By Michael Vaughton

Ewan Winship notched a treble as Real Stortford under-15 Saracens won 6-3 at Pro Direct Academy Enfield and marched into the last eight of the Marco Pisani League Shield.

There was a mix-up which meant the game had to be moved to a different pitch after 15 minutes and the hosts did not provide a linesman, but Saracens took it all in their stride.

Man of the match Winship was joined on the score sheet by Sam Booker, Rollo Buckley and Ben Lynch. The shield was the first piece of silverware won by the club back in its inaugural season.

Under-18 Lions are still very much together after winning that competition in 2016 and they progressed to the last 16 of the Hertfordshire Challenge Cup with a 1-0 victory over Harpenden Colts Blues. Lions got the only goal after 20 minutes when Michael Woodward fired in from the edge of the box following Nick Bartels’ knockdown. Ollie Brewer was man of the match.

Under-18 Stars, who remain unbeaten in all competitions, also made progress thanks to a thumping 9-0 win over Baldock Town.

Matt Kemp and Tolu Osiyemi netted twice, Sam Law, Ollie Travell, Brad Taylor and Jack Booker got one goal apiece and there was an own goal.

Under-18 Falcons let a three-goal lead slip in the final 15 minutes to draw 4-4 at home to Southbury Youth. Efforts from man of the match Patrick Lawrence, who scored twice, Pedro Dinnis and Tom Hesketh had put them in a commanding position, but an error-strewn ending cost them dear.

Man of the match James Hanson produced some goalkeeping heroics as under-13 Bulls gave a good account of themselves in a 4-1 defeat to table-topping Rap Aid. Hayden Lee’s superb skill created a goal for Vincent Doyle.
