Former Saracens hooker and Premiership champion Tom Woolstencroft joins Bishop’s Stortford as forwards’ coach

A double Premiership champion has rejoined Bishop’s Stortford as their new forwards’ coach.

Tom Woolstencroft, who played at hooker and won English rugby’s top flight with Saracens in 2019 and 2023, will be part of head coach Tom Coleman’s backroom staff in National 1.

The former Stortford youth player, who had other spells with the likes of Bath, Wasps and London Irish, also featured in some of Saracens’ matches during their successful European Champions Cup campaign in 2019.

Woolstencroft, 30, announced his retirement from the game with immediate effect in February 2024 on medical grounds following a lengthy recovery from concussion.

He made a total of 85 appearances for Saracens, including being an ever-present during their 2021 Championship-winning campaign following the club’s relegation due to breaching salary cap rules.

Stortford also have a new coach for the second team, known as the Blues, in the form of Steve Hearn.

He is also no stranger to the Silver Leys club having coached the under-sevens, under-16s and colts as well as having represented the minis, youths, colts, Blues and first XV during his playing days.
