Bishop’s Stortford Futsal Club teams competes at Youth Futsal League Finals in Rickmansworth
Bishop’s Stortford Futsal Club wrapped up an impressive campaign at the Youth Futsal League Finals as four teams competed over two thrilling weekends in Rickmansworth.
Players from the under-eight, under-13 and under-15 squads represented the club with pride as they showcased talent, teamwork and determination throughout.
The under-15 first team delivered arguably the most dramatic moment of the tournament in a high-octane clash against London Escolla.
They surged into an early 2-0 lead and, after being pegged back by half time, found themselves 4-3 up with three minutes remaining.
They then conceded an equaliser, but, with only seconds left, goalkeeper Ed Charleswood launched a perfect throw to Torin Fraser, who powered past a defender and fired home to complete his hat-trick and seal a thrilling 5–4 victory.
The club’s youngest players were equally remarkable in their performance. In the under-eight final against A-Star, Stortford found themselves trailing 3-0 just minutes into the game before they responded with determination to stage an incredible comeback and make it 4-4 at half time.
Stortford took full control after the break and secured a commanding 10-5 win as Ronnie Penn led the charge with four goals.
Lenny Jobber claimed a brace and every other player, including goalkeeper Lenny Frame, found the net in an all-round team effort.
The under-13s faced a stern test against a formidable Kew Park Rangers side and, despite showing moments of quality, they could not match their opponents’ pace and eventually succumbed 15-5.
While the result was tough, it provided valuable experience for the young team as they continue to develop.
The club’s under-15 second team put up a strong fight against Bloomsbury.
After falling behind 2-0 early on, they got it back to 2-2 at half time before a shaky start to the second half saw them trail 5-2 despite some fine saves from goalkeeper Patrick Witham.
A spirited late comeback saw Stortford cut the deficit to 5-4, but time ran out before they could find an equaliser.
“Every player gave their all and did the club proud,” said head coach Matt Geddes. “From our under-8s to under-15s, the character, skill and passion on display was fantastic to see.”
With the finals behind them, Stortford’s young players are already looking ahead as they aim to build on their success and tackle new challenges in the upcoming season.
