Miss Disco performing at South Mill Arts in Bishop’s Stortford on Friday May 16
Miss Disco return to South Mill Arts on Friday May 16 for another show packed with floor fillers on the back of enjoying massive success with their debut single.
The band are back to perform in Bishop’s Stortford for the first time since they scored a No 15 hit on the UK Soul Chart with One Step (After Another) at the end of last year.
The seven-piece teamed up with veteran songwriter-producer and broadcaster Mark Wesley to record the track, which is available on all download and streaming platforms, 50 years after the song was originally written.
The previously unreleased song was penned in 1974 by former Radio Luxembourg DJ and Saffron Walden resident Wesley, who, as a long-time fan of Miss Disco, offered them the chance to record and release the song, believing it would fit seamlessly into their live set.
And radio stations around the world started playing it following its release in October, with the tune getting regular airplay from legendary DJ Tony Blackburn on BBC Radio 2.
The Walden-based group were also Blues & Soul magazine cover stars, featured on BBC One’s Look East and received a glowing endorsement from Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood, who said on social media: “I think it’s fab-u-lous! A disco classic if ever there was one.”
Miss Disco’s lead vocalist Susan Pinky said: “We really didn’t have any expectations for the single beyond having a great time recording it.
“So when national radio stations started playing it and it started climbing the UK Soul Chart, we had to pinch ourselves. It was a fantastic experience.”
The single is now part of the band’s set as they perform non-stop classic hits by disco’s biggest icons, including Chic, Sister Sledge, Chaka Khan, Bee Gees, Gloria Gaynor, Diana Ross, Candi Staton and Earth Wind & Fire.
The group are now looking forward to sharing another night of brilliant music with the Stortford audience at the South Road complex. As always, everyone attending is encouraged to dress for “maximum disco”.
“We have a fantastic history with Bishop’s Stortford, going back long before we formed Miss Disco in 2020, so we can’t wait to see everybody back at South Mill Arts for what we guarantee will be an evening of pure unadulterated disco escapism,” added Pinky. “We’ll see you on the dance floor!”
Tickets, priced £22, are available at www.southmillarts.co.uk and www.missdisco.co.uk.
