Dr Janet Dyson to give Dunmow Art Group talk after appearance on Great British Railway Journeys with Michael Portillo

A teacher, writer and bookseller who recently featured on BBC Two’s Great British Railway Journeys is giving a talk to Dunmow Art Group on Wednesday May 21.

Dr Janet Dyson will give a presentation on the Great Bardfield artists at Foakes Hall in Great Dunmow at 7.30pm.

The Great Bardfield Historical Society member, who is also a bookseller and researcher, appeared alongside presenter and former Conservative MP Michael Portillo on an episode of his programme earlier in the spring as he made his way through Essex.

Dyson has written a number of books, including 2017’s Great Bardfield Shows Beautiful Things: The Artists of Great Bardfield. The small-format book provides an introduction to the group of artists who gathered in the Essex village of Great Bardfield from the 1930s onwards.

In her talk, which costs £1 for members and £5 for non-members, she will put a particular focus on artist Tirzah Garwood.

Dunmow Art Group has a long history of supporting artists and art lovers in and around Dunmow and has a regular programme of weekly art meetings and monthly visiting artists.
