Stortford band Darlings in plea to fans to vote for a slot at Y Not? Festival
It’s been an exciting couple of years for Bishop’s Stortford indie band Darlings – and now they are asking their fans to help them enjoy a summer of success.
The four-piece have been short-listed for the Y Not? Festival in Derbyshire in August, rubbing shoulders with the likes of Snow Patrol, Noel Gallagher, Jamie T and The Kaiser Chiefs, but they need people to vote for them to secure a slot.
Bass guitarist Bailey Burnett said Bishop’s Stortford has been a big part of their journey, with The Half Moon pub a regular haunt in the early days. “It would be nice to get the support from the town,” he said.
The latest line-up still has links to the Stortford area, with Bailey and his brother Cameron (drums) former students of Newport Free Grammar School – now Joyce Frankland Academy – and lead guitarist Liam Hunt and vocalist Steve Marriott Dos Anjos both former Birchwood High School boys. When Bailey’s not playing bass for Darlings he is cutting hair at Charlie Brown’s Barbers in Riverside Walk.
But before the Y Not? festival on August 2-4 the band have their biggest headlining gig, at The Camden Assembly on Saturday (March 30). And on Friday they release their latest single, a live cover of Girls Aloud’s Sound of the Underground.
The band’s progress in the music world has been steady, each year making positive strides while winning friends and influencing people.
Last year they played The Isle Of Wight Festival and The Truck Festival, and their songs have been getting airplay on Radio X. They also opened for The Libertines at their gig in Margate, playing at the cult band’s hotel.
