Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society and Bishop’s Stortford Band joint summer concert on Saturday July 5
Bishop’s Stortford Choral Society (BSCS) is collaborating with the town’s top brass as it joins forces with the Bishop’s Stortford Band for a summer concert packed with choral and brass favourites on Saturday July 5, writes Helen Miller.
And the two groups certainly have something to trumpet about as it is the first time they have held a joint concert.
“Choirs and brass are an excellent combination and we’re all really looking forward to showcasing the sounds of the two together,” said Stuart Dodgson, conductor of the Bishop’s Stortford Band.
Music fans can expect to hear a variety of uplifting and reflective works, including part songs, tone poems and stirring anthems by composers such as Handel, Elgar, Holst, Parry and Sibelius.
“Between us, we’ve chosen a wide-ranging summer programme that will hopefully appeal to everyone and put a spring in the step of both the audience and the performers,” said Richard Brain, BSCS musical director.
The concert takes place at Bishop’s Stortford Methodist Church, in South Street, and starts at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £14 (students and under-18s free), are available online at www.singwithbscs.org.uk or on the door.
