Bishop's Stortford Choral Society is crying out for new members.

Membership of the choir, which this year marks its 80th anniversary, has taken a hit during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is holding an open rehearsal on Thursday (January 13) and looks forward to welcoming local residents interested in singing. All voice parts are welcome.

This term, the choir is rehearsing Elgar's Dream of Gerontius ahead of its joint 80th birthday concert with Barnet Choral Society at international concert venue Saffron Hall in Saffron Walden on Saturday April 9.

They will be accompanied by the Forest Philharmonia Orchestra and conducted by Richard Brain, who coincidentally is the musical director of both choirs.

Thursday's open rehearsal takes place at the choir's usual venue, the Water Lane United Reformed Church, and starts at 7.45pm. Singers are invited to wear a mask – when not singing!

More details about the choir can be found at http://www.singwithbscs.org.uk. Tickets for the concert are available from https://www.saffronhall.com/.
