The Hives to headline summer concert at Audley End with The Fratellis and The Sandinistas in support
Indie rock stars The Hives will headline the three-night Heritage Live Concert Series at Audley End House next summer.
The Swedish chart-toppers will be supported by The Fratellis and The Sandinistas for the Saturday night show when the stately home near Saffron Walden is transformed into an open-air music venue from July 12 to 14.
The Hives released their debut album, Barely Legal, just over a decade ago. Their 2000 follow-up, Veni Vidi Vicious, catapulted them onto the world stage on the strength of hits Hate To Say I Told You So and Main Offender, which established them at the forefront of the international garage rock revival alongside bands like The Strokes and The White Stripes.
Rolling Stone magazine went on to name the LP as one of the Top 100 Albums of the Decade, with its UK companion album Your New Favourite Band – a compilation album featuring tracks from their early EPs and first two LPs – cracking the top 10 and ultimately going platinum.
Fronted by the enigmatic Howlin’ Pelle Almqvist, The Hives have collaborated with the likes of Pharrell Williams, garnering US top 40 hits including Tick Tick Boom and several gold albums and awards worldwide.
Their unique look of black and white suits and top hats will be in keeping with the majestic grounds of Audley End.
Also taking to the stage will be The Fratellis, who roared into their second decade as a band with their fifth album, In Your Own Sweet Time, released in 2017 to widespread critical acclaim and commercial success.
In 2016, they undertook a 16-date UK tour to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Costello Music, their successful sing-along debut album, which earned them a BRIT Award for Best British Breakthrough Act and spent 83 weeks in the charts, bolstered by hits such as Flathead, Whistle For The Choir and the now ubiquitous anthem Chelsea Dagger.
Opening the show on Saturday July 13 will be The Sandinistas.
Born in the Welsh valleys, they have become a tour de force live act, having toured throughout 2017 and built a strong following.
The four-piece count BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens among their fans and performed four shows at the prestigious South By South West Festival in Austin, Texas.
