Cammas Hall: Spooky spectacular is the biggest Hallowe'en display yet for the Hatfield Broad Oak farm
A spooky spectacular with creepy ghouls, scary spiders, tasty treats and a fiery pumpkin volcano will delight and thrill visitors to Cammas Hall Farm in the run-up to Hallowe'en.
The month-long family event is under way at the Hatfield Broad Oak venue, with tickets available for both day and evening sessions up until Sunday October 30.
The fruit farm's popular Halloween Experience and Pumpkin Patch promises to be its biggest ever themed display.
There are three age-appropriate Wicked Walkways to negotiate with animated props along the way, a cobweb-festooned spider house (they're not real spiders!) and a team of professional actors dressed in Hallowe'en costumes to add to the spooky atmosphere and accompany you on your journey through the tombstones, scarecrows and flying ghouls that lurk in the shadows.
You emerge into a vast patchwork quilt of pumpkins spread out in colourful squares, close to where tasty seasonal treats and delicious drinks will be served, such as the specially brewed Pump King Ale, produced using Cammas Hall pumpkins by New Rivers Brewery of Hoddesdon. They have produced almost 2,000 bottles for the occasion.
Visitors can then gather around the colossal smoking pumpkin volcano, which features as the centrepiece and as night falls emits a red glow.
The farm shop is once again full of pumpkin carving kits and games and toys for kids, and the popular maize maze is also open.
Owner Jonathan Lukies, whose farm produces 120,000 to 160,000 pumpkins and 74 varieties of squash every year, said they had listened to feedback from visitors last year and toned down the scary elements for younger children while giving the older, braver ones the chance to experience more of a fright. "It's a spookier experience but is still suitable for younger children," he said.
"We have a totally new layout and try to improve it each year, and we think we have the biggest pumpkin patch (that is not a field) in the UK.
"We've had a team of 20 people working on this for two weeks, we do everything in-house, and hope to attract 50,000 people in October."
Bookings for the Halloween Experience can be made via www.cammashall.co.uk. The shop will be open to anyone just wanting to pop in to buy their pumpkin, carving kits, toys or food.
