Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish: ‘Dancing dinosaurs, space travel and catchy songs’ coming to South Mill Arts for half-term
Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish, a stage adaptation of a popular children’s novel, comes to Bishop’s Stortford this half-term.
The show will be performed at South Mills Arts, South Road, on Tuesday May 30 at 1.30pm.
The original novel, written by Michael Foreman, is a cautionary environmental tale for children.
It celebrated its 50th birthday last year and has sold more than 150,000 copies worldwide.
The show is created by Bristol-based theatre company Roustabout, whose work is performed in theatres, schools, libraries and community venues across the UK.
Roustabout said audiences can expect an hour of “dancing dinosaurs, space travel and catchy songs”.
The book and stage adaptation deliver an ecological awareness message. Roustabout said: “The Earth belongs to EVERYONE, not parts of it to certain people but all of it to everyone, to be enjoyed and cared for.”
The show was short-listed for Best Theatre for Children at the Off West End Theatre Awards 2022. It also performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2022 where it received positive reviews.
It is performed by actor-musicians Oliver de Rohan, Robert Hemmings and Shaelee Rooke.
Foreman said his book was even more relevant today than when it was published 50 years ago.
He approved of the stage adaptation of his work: “I felt so proud that my ancient book had played a part in this joyful experience.
“For me, as an author/illustrator, it was a rare and special treat to feel, at first hand, such a warm and enthusiastic response from parents and children together.”
