Uncle Funk’s Disco Inferno to play Stortford after shows at Standon Calling, Marvellous, Fleurfest and Rewind festivals
Uncle Funk is back in Bishop’s Stortford with his new band Disco Inferno after a busy summer of festival shows.
Fresh from headline appearances on the opening night of Standon Calling and the Marvellous Festival in Berkshire, as well as coveted spots at Fleurfest in Oxfordshire and the Rewind festivals in Macclesfield and Henley-on-Thames, the hit disco covers band are playing South Mill Arts on Thursday September 9.
It will be their first appearance in Stortford since undergoing a complete makeover in early 2020. Formerly Uncle Funk and the Boogie Wonderband, the Glastonbury regulars were always a big draw at the South Road venue in its previous guise of the Rhodes Arts Complex.
Uncle Funk is now joined on vocals by award-winning acrobats and pole dancers the Seifert Sisters. Tanya Seifert also fronts the Women In Rock theatre show.
The nine-piece is completed by Cliff Richard’s guitarist Bobby Harrison, Bonnie Tyler’s bass player Mike Brooks, Vertaal drummer Ajit Gill, jazz keyboardist James Beckwith, saxophonist Fiona Asbury – who has toured the world with many famous artists and orchestras – and West End musical veteran Rosie Duckworth on trumpet.
“I’m very proud of this new band," said Uncle Funk frontman Simon Baker. "With very little chance to rehearse during lockdown they’ve been thrown in at the deep end with some major festival shows, and I’ve had nothing but incredible feedback, including many who've told me it’s the best Uncle Funk show they’ve ever seen.
"All the disco hits are still part of the show, with a few surprises thrown in and a whole new image.”
Tickets priced £24 are available online from the South Mill Arts box office at www.southmillarts.co.uk or call 01279 710200. The show starts at 8.30pm.
