Sworders, the fine art auctioneer in Stansted, is offering selected contents of a grade II-listed manor house at Thaxted as part of its Fine Interiors sale at the end of June.

The charming collection of traditional English and Continental furniture, paintings and decorative arts from the 17th to 19th centuries has been beautifully presented alongside an exciting array of modern art at Folly Mill.

Situated in a 222-acre estate, the house dates back to the late 16th century and extends to over 4,200 sq ft (390 sq m).

After being bought by the Renton family in 1938, the property has been used over the past 80 years as a party venue and a base for country pursuits.

Estimates for the collection, to be offered in 37 lots on June 29-30, range from £200-£300 for a large Imari punch bowl to £3,000-£5,000 for a Dutch genre scene of revellers outside an inn by a follower of Peeter Gysels.

The selection of modern art will be offered in Sworders’ Modern and Contemporary Art sale later in 2021.
