A Bishop's Stortford artist's collages have been selected to feature in the Hertford Arts Trail.

The pieces by Nick Dittrich, which were created using recycled advertising billboard posters with original wording added using recycled dry transfer lettering, are part of the county town's arts festival.

The trail attracts more than 20 talented artists who showcase their work within a prime town centre location to exhibit and sell artwork for a month-long period. It began on April 9 and ends on Saturday May 7.

Having collected numerous objets trouvés over the years, Dittrich has recently been recycling them into his artworks. He said: "The large-scale halftone printing, the torn forms, vivid colours and ripped edges are ideal to create purely abstract expressions as opposed to the original pictorial advertising images."

He returned to his love of fine art about 10 years ago and uses his hand skills to create original artworks using any medium that comes to hand as he likes to innovate and experiment.

"This is a work of passion where I get to decide what matters," said Dittrich. "Art is a great way to discover new ways to be creative."

The pop-up art exhibition venues on the trail consist of a multitude of retailers around Hertford town centre, including bars and cafes, beauty salons, clothes retailers and gift shops.

Dittrich's collages are available to purchase at Mudlarks Garden Café at 32 Fore Street. It is open Tuesday to Saturday 9am-4pm until May 7. The art gallery can be found at the back of the café. See www.hertford.gov.uk to find out more.
