Globe-trotting Gordon Southern headlines Stortford's Laughing Bishops Comedy Club
International word clown Gordon Southern headlines Bishop's Stortford's monthly comedy club this Saturday (April 21) as club founder and compere Paddy Lennox introduces another bill of talented and varied stand-ups.
Southern will be supported by American Will Franken and home-grown talent Paul F Taylor for the Laughing Bishops Comedy Club’s April session at the United Reformed Church hall in Water Lane.
Southern is one of the busiest comedians in the UK, playing everywhere worth playing.
He is a regular at the world-famous London Comedy Store, a resident MC at Edinburgh’s notorious Late N Live and a fixture on the global festival circuit.
A talented actor and award-winning writer with critical acclaim for numerous projects, Southern has written for some of the most memorable comedy shows of the last decade.
Franken is a London-based comedian who specialises in high-speed, quick-change character comedy with an emphasis on politically incorrect satire.
His work has been featured on Radio 4, Channel 4 and BBC America and has been praised on both sides of the Atlantic in such publications as The Times, New York Times, The Guardian, The Scotsman and Spiked.
The late comedy genius Robin Williams once said of him: “Will Franken is a master of delusion, a subconscious unchained. He is also very funny.”
Paul F Taylor is one of the UK’s most original and distinctive stand-up performers.
His unique brand of humour fuses quirky, offbeat one-liners with surreal and observational flights of fancy to fantastical effect. Paul took home the title of the New Act of the Year in 2013.
As ever, the event will be compered by engaging and likeable Laughing Bishops founder and Stortford resident Paddy Lennox, a regular at the Comedy Store London, Manchester and Dubai.
The Irish comedian and actor – who four years ago launched Dunmow Comedy Club – first burst onto stage as a stand-up in 2001, only to be interrupted by a couple of comedies at the Shakespeare Globe Theatre and filming in far off lands, before returning to his new-found passion.
Paddy has supported such touring comics as Micky Flanagan, Rhod Gilbert, Lucy Porter and Omid Djalili.
