Herts and Soul Community Choir and Umbrella Big Band to perform Christmas concert at Herts and Essex High School on December 14
Herts and Soul Community Choir is joining forces with Umbrella Big Band to serve up a musical festive feast at a special concert next month.
A Merry Big Band Christmas takes place at Herts and Essex High School in Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday December 14.
It will see the choir and 15-piece big band, which features saxophones, trumpets, trombones and a rhythm section, perform a range of toe-tapping seasonal classics.
The audience can expect everything from traditional carols and sensational swing to Rat Pack classics and sing-a-long favourites.
And the evening will raise vital funds for Isabel Hospice in order to give the charity a Christmas boost.
“It’s going to be a fantastic evening,” said choir co-ordinator Lucy Gray.
“We love singing alongside the Umbrella Big Band - our combined energy is amazing! Come and find out for yourself!
“Together we’ll be performing arrangements of Michael Buble, Jamie Cullum, Bing Crosby, Brenda Lee, Andy Williams, Mariah Carey, Joni Mitchell and more.
“The audience is invited to join in for some communal traditional carols as well as the old classics - we can all sing with a big band! How sparkly and Christmassy is that?
“And what’s more, we’ll be raising vital funds for Isabel Hospice which does such incredible work in our community.
“Alongside the joy that singing brings to those who perform or listen, the ethos of the choir is to support such important organisations - it's a win-win all round.”
Herts and Soul Community Choir has raised in excess of £60,000 for local good causes over the last 14 years through its many community events.
The December 14 concert at the Warwick Road secondary school starts at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12 for adults, £10 for concessions and children under the age of 16 get in free. Mulled wine and mince pies will be available too.
