Bursting onto the scene 30 years ago, Thursday’s (August 1) opening night headliners Suede were dubbed the best new band in Britain by Melody Maker and soared to the top of the charts with their self-titled debut album, which was the second recipient of the Mercury Music Prize.
With huge songs such as Metal Mickey, Animal Nitrate, Beautiful Ones, Trash, Saturday Night and Filmstar, the band achieved remarkable success across a run of era-defining albums including Suede, Dog Man Star and Coming Up.
Support will come from Marr, who found fame in The Smiths, and singer-songwriter Nadine Shah.
Known for their energetic and lively live sets, Madness will headline on Friday (August 2). Expect a show teeming with hits from the nutty boys’ unrivalled back catalogue along with songs from recent album Theatre of the Absurd Presents C’est la Vie.
The band, formed in Camden Town in the 1970s, have become one of Britain’s most celebrated acts thanks to much-loved hits like One Step Beyond, Baggy Trouser, House of Fun and Our House.
They will be joined on the bill by Lightning Seeds and Old Time Sailors.
Richard Ashcroft, who found fame in The Verve in the 1990s, is the star turn for the gig on Saturday August 3.
The Verve released one of the best albums of that century in the shape of Urban Hymn, with the UK’s 18th-biggest selling album of all time producing singles The Drugs Don’t Work, Bittersweet Symphony and Lucky Man.
Ashcroft, who will be supported by Ocean Colour Scene and former Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan, has also released five top-five solo albums.
The series will conclude on Sunday August 4 when headliners Elbow perform some of their biggest tunes and new material.
The Manchester band, fronted by Guy Garvey, have enjoyed major success over the last two decades, with their 2008 album The Seldom Seen Kid spawning huge anthem One Day Like This.
The group, who have won NME, Mojo and BRIT Awards as well as Ivor Novello accolades, will be supported by The Waeve – Blur lead guitarist and vocalist Graham Coxon’s band – and Dana Gavanski.
