Indie reader offer: 20% off at Stortford gaming centre VIRE
A new gaming centre in Bishop's Stortford, which includes an assortment of virtual reality (VR) experiences, has been a big hit since it opened last month - and now Bishop's Stortford Independent can save money on games there with our exclsuive reader offer.
VIRE, in the three-storey former Nomad premises in Potter Street, officially opened on Saturday, January 20. Young children, teenagers and adults alike can play various team or single-player games using VR headsets, or if they prefer live-action games, there is a Nerf battle arena and Crystal Maze-style escape rooms.
Over the opening weekend, a charity day in which visitors were given 10-minute taster sessions of the games in return for a donation to Grove Cottage, the home of Bishop’s Stortford Mencap in London Road, raised £171.69.
Co-director Ian Cox was pleased with the launch weekend. “It was good, we had a lot of people there,” he said. “It was very positive. At times there were almost too many people, so it was mayhem.”
The centre has already hosted birthday parties for teens and children and has more booked in over the next few weeks. “In terms of parties, we’re getting loads of interest,” said Ian.
But VIRE also welcomes small groups, or individual players. The games cost around £20 for an hour, and people of all ages are welcome, though it is recommended that VR games are only played by those aged over 10.
The centre is open 4pm-8pm Wednesdays to Fridays and 10am-8pm at weekends. Opening hours will be extended during half-term week, Feb 12-16, to 10am-5pm Monday to Friday.
With our exclusive offer, Bishop’s Stortford Independent readers young and not so young can save 20%.
Just buy a copy of this week’s (Jan 31-Feb 6) Indie for 80p, cut out the coupon on page 15, take it along to VIRE by 8pm on Sunday (Feb 4) and you will get 20% off when you book your session.
The sessions can be booked for any time – including half-term week from February 12 to 16 – but you must make the booking by the end of Sunday.
For example, book a VR team game for two or more players for an hour on any afternoon and instead of paying £24 per player you will pay £19.20 with our offer. You will pay £17.60 per person instead of the usual £22 for the escape room, while an hour in the Nerf battle arena, which costs £18 per player from noon, will be £14.40.
Photocopies of the coupon will not be accepted.
