Legendary Welsh singer Tom Jones will perform a special outdoor show at Audley End House and Gardens this summer.

The 81-year-old will take to the stage in the grounds of the stately home near Saffron Walden on Sunday August 14 along with special guests yet to be announced.

Sir Tom – born Thomas John Woodward in Pontypridd, South Wales, to a coal-mining family – is to appear as part of English Heritage's Heritage Live concert series.

His career, which spans more than half a century, began with a string of top 10 hits in the mid-1960s. He has toured regularly, including appearances in Las Vegas.

He has sold over 100 million records, with 36 top 40 hits in the UK and 19 in the US, including It's Not Unusual, What's New Pussycat? – the theme song for 1965 James Bond film ThunderballGreen, Green Grass of Home, Delilah, She's a Lady, Kiss and Sex Bomb.

He won a 1966 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, an MTV Video Music Award in 1989 and two Brit Awards: Best British Male in 2000 and Outstanding Contribution to Music in 2003.

Tom has also dabbled in acting, making his debut playing the lead role in 1979 TV film Pleasure Cove. In 1970 he was nominated for a Golden Globe award for his TV series This Is Tom Jones. He appeared as himself in Tim Burton's 1996 film Mars Attacks! And in 2012, he played his first dramatic acting role in an episode of Playhouse Presents.

He has experienced a resurgence in the last 10 years due to his coaching role on TV talent show The Voice UK.

He was awarded an OBE in 1998 and knighted by the Queen for services to music in 2005.

As well as maintaining his fanbase as a live performer and recording artist, Sir Tom continues to garner critical acclaim, including with the release of his most recent No 1 album, last year's Surrounded By Time.

The album, the latest in a series of collaborations with producer Ethan Johns, again saw him delve further into his love of blues and soul, featuring his versions of songs by the likes of Bob Dylan, The Waterboys, Cat Stevens and more.

It is the most recent high point in a career full of highlights for Tiger Tom, including a Silver Clef Award for Lifetime Achievement, the Hitmaker Award from the [US] Songwriters Hall of Fame, GQ Man of the Year and the prestigious [UK] Music Industry Trust Award.
